There is no limit to what you can perform: Poetry, music, stories, magic. We'll give you a stage and a mic and you can choose how to use it.

Fresh off a U.K. romp supporting Kate Tempest's album launch at the iconic Brixton Academy, Omar Musa, Malaysian-Australian author, rapper and poet from Queanbeyan, Australia will once again brace the stage at Bankstown Poetry Slam alongside support feature Zach Janus and a slew of home grown Poets, Storyteller's, Griots and Wordsmiths.
Poetry aficionado's, appreciators of Hip-Hop and literature that beat's with a thunderous heart you absolutely do not want to miss this!

The Real Talk Finale is the culmination of 5 weeks of workshops with 9 predominantly Western Sydney high schools. On Friday the 30th of June, 5 heat finalists from each school will have the opportunity to present their own spoken word piece in a fierce battle of words. There will be passion, laughter, sadness and ofcourse poetry from the voices of our youth that will amaze and inspire you!

You do not want to miss this incredible day of performance and poetry, featuring the following schools:

Bankstown Poetry Slam presents: Hakayet: A community storytelling evening. Drawing upon the oral traditions of the many different cultures that inhabit the Bankstown region, we invite you to listen to and share the stories that define us and inspire us. Featuring a story from Sara Saleh, this month's theme will be 'Grandparents'. We will be serving sweets and tea as we indulge in the stories of the evening. To cover costs, we will be charging a nominal fee of $5 at the door.

spoken word poetry. They’ve all been been part of Real Talk, an award-winning spoken

word poetry program created to help young people find their voices. In this showcase,

teenagers from the program spit words from the heart and use slam poetry to tell it like

it is. Sara Mansour, co-founder of Bankstown Poetry Slam, hosts this performance of

fierce, funny and fresh voices of the future.

The Resurrection is an anthology of raw and inspiring poems from over 40 poets in the BPS community.
Featuring a Grand Slam section, a BPS slamily section and a Lover's section, the collection is a must have for poetry lovers.

Workshops will be facilitated by BPS team members and provide you with an intimate setting in which you can build on your writing and performance skills.

Bios of this month's feature:
Josh Holms is a poet, conscious hip-hop artist and workshop facilitator. Josh takes his influences from old and fellow poets, hip hop artists and ancient texts.

Combining philosophy, vulnerability, story, political protest and raw expression Josh believes poetry to be a universal connector. Josh is the founder of Bigger Than Poetry on the Gold Coast, a regular MC at various events and also the 2015 winner of The Poetry Performance World Cup.

With open mic's, there are no strict time limits (but don't take 5eva on stage) and no judging involved. Flip The Script is a space for you to perform whatever you want to, without any rules.

What is the age limit?
Performers must be under the age of 24 to sign up, but we welcome everyone of all ages to... watch and support our performers.

Bios of this month's feature:
Alice started on stages performing original comedic music, poetry and comedy and now she almost has a degree, featured in Wollongong, performed in the BPS Grand slam 2015 + 2016, (also sort of won that lol) APS + SSF15 + SWF16 + SSF16, and someone let her write a book. 😌
Alice loves Pokemon and wine and poetry almost as much as she loves her big extended family and the beautiful community of poets and artists around her. (Also tells bad jokes and most photos of her include a cocktail)

Bio of this month's supporting act:
Aisha is a year 10 student at James Ruse Agricultural High School. She was introduced to the world of poetry slam only a year ago and it has diversified her view of everything around her. At one point, she found herself writing a poem about fruit! You won't find her without a book in her hand, living in two worlds. She is an avid football and tennis fan, GO THE BULLDOGS and human rights advocacy is a passion of which has always resided deeply within her.
